Tony Bath's Ancient Wargaming

220 pages ISBN 978-0-557-11180-0

'Without Tony Bath, there would be no Slingshot for us to read, Ancient Wargaming would not have become the most influential and popular branch of the hobby and the art of Wargames Campaigns would be much less richly developed.' Phil Barker, WRG, DBA, DBM, DBMM

Tony Bath’s early inspiration was the force that launched ancient wargaming. With his friend Donald Featherstone, he pioneered the first table top ancient battles and the most well-known of all wargaming campaigns, the Legend of Hyboria.

This compilation of his work includes:

The Peltast and Pila Ancient Wargaming Rules

The complete book, Setting up a Wargames Campaign

The Legend of Hyboria (including notes on the conclusion of that climatic campaign)

Setting up a Wargames Campaign is a complete guide to setting up an ancient and medieval campaign and has chapters on:

      Map movement

      Contact, battles and after effects

      Playing with umpires and without

      Supplies and replacements

Guidelines on running campaigns in other periods.

As Donald Featherstone said, 'a perfect little book'

This book has been produced in partnership with the Society of Ancients

The book contains 13 chapters

Errata Tony Bath’s Ancient Wargaming- first edition

All copies sold after Jan 2010 have the corrected text.

Due to failure to coordinate proof readers, some errors crept into parts of the Tony Bath Book. The significant errors are shown below.

P27- rule 8a should be ‘more than a ¼ of a move away’

P42 - rule 16 should say ‘a further ½ move to reach the roof’

P121 - 1st paragraph , if 6 is rolled it means murder is the cause of death

P163 - last paragraph should say ‘a field army of 200 points’.

These will be corrected when the 2nd edition goes to print.
