- Those players with blank firing guns are requested to initially have them completely concealed.
- You should believe everything you see and treat it as real. The type of game does not work if you say something like,
'do not worry, this is not really a ghost, its someone in a funny costume’.
- The aim is to produce atmosphere of period, not exact an date.
Therefore, ignore minor inconsistencies e.g. dates on books, assume they are actually a period date. - The game will not stop until the end (there are 'no time outs'), unless there is a real emergency,
from start until game finishes in early hours of Sunday morning.
- A large number of props are used and many are valuable: Treat them as such.
Perhaps when finished with small props put them somewhere central (hence you know where they are and you can find
them again), no-one will steal any props you have found once they are placed in a central location
- Firearms we occasionally use .22 blank firers- be aware that they still have a small flash that can cause a flash burn and
can be very loud in confined spaces. Only 8 rounds allowed per gun. May give 12 rounds to refs now- this may be
available in some logical place/ time later in game.
- Shooting rules: you hit the target if you make an aimed shot in same room or 10 paces outside. If target is in
cover, it takes average 3 shots to hit. Crew take care of own hits, you do not tell them they have been hit!
Investigators use an honesty system; if you think you have been hit, one of crew will tell you e.g.
butler. If you role play well, the hit will be less likely to kill you!
- Ask nearest crew before you start ripping the place to pieces e.g. before move double wardrobe, ask if good idea. If they say, ‘Perhaps that it not such a good idea’ this means no. You might have to rip something to pieces, but ask first!
- You should not build barricades, locking doors, windows. Assume that the household staff/ servants go around and
make the house secure in event of any trouble.
- Anything secured with a lock/ padlock/ strap with padlock on it/ cannot be opened without key. You may not break
it, force it or pick it! Find the key.
- Small white signs saying 'No play or private' means you cannot enter that area- nothing of value is behind the area. Areas
may change.
